Papers, 1917-1919.

Includes a scrapbook compiled by Stella Miller for her future husband Cordon Coon about his military time at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, and includes primarily newspaper clippings, and some pamphlets, booklets, etc. Much of it is general in nature, although Coon's and other N.D. names found in articles. The correspondence consists of letters from soldiers and mailed to Stella Miller at Buffalo, N.D. Correspondents include Harry Christensen (her cousin?), L.C. Pinault, and A.W. Paul, all written while they were stationed in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces. There is also a letter to Stella F. Miller from the United States Navy Recuiting Station in Minneapolis that she is authorized to obtain applicants for enlistment in the U.S. Navy in the Buffalo, N.D. area. Along with the letter is a ribbon, " Ask me about the Navy."

Louis Pinault was born on December 29, 1889 in St. Joseph, Minnesota. He attended St. Cloud Normal School, the University of Minnesota and the University of Illinois, where he earned his architecture degree in 1914. He was a partner in Mann & Pinault, Architects (1915-1922) and beginning in 1922, he was an independent architect based in St. Cloud. Stella Miller was born at Buffalo, N.D. in 1893. She graduated from the University of Minnesota and taught school. She met Cordon Coon of Mankato, Minnesota at Buffalo and they were married in 1919. He served in World War I. They lived in Montana before returning to Buffalo to manage the Miller farm. They both died in 1986. From the description of Papers, 1917-1919.
